Human Rights Advocacy

Protection of human rights is a continuous process. Human rights are abused both directly and indirectly and AFHI UGANDA shall concern herself with both, especially those that have their bedrock in entrenched systems and cultural practices. There is also limited participation of women in peace- and decision-making processes. Thus, AFHI UGANDA’s programming shall focus on Gender Based Violence (GBV), Domestic violence, child sexual abuse, child trafficking, neglect, peace building, child murder (commonly referred to as child sacrifice) and denial of resources such as land and other property.

Service gaps

  • Harmful cultural practices leading to early marriages and disadvantaging girls.
  • Existence of domestic violence that is justified using archaic traditional practices.
  • Widespread GBV practices and laxity in challenging perpetrators and the practice.
  • Child Abuse including neglect, defilement, trafficking and denial of education and other basic needs.
  • Limited women participation in peace building processes.
